Dr. Edwin Riley, Distinguished Clarinetist, Moderator

Dr. Edwin Riley is a nationally known recitalist, soloist, and clinician. He received his B.M. and M.S. degrees from the Julliard School and his D.M.A. degree from the University of Iowa. His teachers include Bernard Portnoy, Joseph Allard, George Silfies and Himie Voxman.
Formerly, Dr. Riley Played in the American Symphony under Leopold Stokowski and was Principal Clarinet in the Cedar Rapids Symphony (Iowa). He has played clarinet in the Atlanta Opera Orchestra and Principal Clarinet in the Columbus Symphony.
His chamber music experience includes three years with the Premier Woodwind Quintet, which performed extensively throughout the New York City area while he was a member of the USMA Band at West Point. He is currently a member of the Southwind Quintet, in residence at Columbus College, which performs throughout the Southeast.
Dr. Riley's publications include two graded guides for clarinet: "Clarinet Course of Study" and "Clarinet Chamber Music". Both are published by Music Teachers National Association.
Dr. Riley plays Selmer (Paris) clarinets and has been a clinician with The Selmer Company since 1979. He has performed clinics at Midwest in Chicago, Mideast in Pittsburgh, MENC in Indianapolis, and the Texas Bandmaster's Association convention in San Antonio. He is also an active Clinician at state and regional MENC conventions.
In addition to performance and publication, Dr. Riley is a Past President of ClariNetwork InterNational.
Dr. Riley is a retired Professor of Music at Columbus State University, a member of the University System of Georgia.

Saxophone Corner

Miles Osland has distinguished himself as an educator, recording and performing artist, author, arranger and composer. Currently the Director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Saxophone at the University of Kentucky, he has appeared throughout North America and Europe as a guest conductor, performer and clinician for Selmer Saxophones and Bay Woodwind Mouthpieces. His compositions and arrangements, available through Walrus Music, have been recognized and supported by fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Kentucky Arts Council, and by numerous other arts foundations.
Two of his recordings, Saxercise and My Old Kentucky Home, have been submitted for Grammy nominations by Sea Breeze Jazz Records, one of the most respected labels in jazz. His latest recording for Open Loop Jazz Records, An Old Speckled Hen at Snapes Malting, was inspired by his experiences while performing in England. The debut recording by the Osland Saxophone Quartet has been hailed by the Saxophone Journal as "a great example of the century of music to come", and was featured on NPR's nationally syndicated classical radio show Performance Today.
All of Mr. Osland's Sea Breeze recordings are available at Tower Records. Osland's six books are available through Dorn Publications and his scholarly work including over 50 published articles in saxophone technique and jazz improvisation can be found in a variety of publications, including: Downbeat, Jazz Educators Journal, Jazz Player Magazine, Saxophone Journal, Selmer Woodwind Notes, and Windplayer Magazine.
Professor Osland holds a Master's degree from Eastman School of Music and his major teachers have included: Ramon Ricker & Gary Foster (saxophone), Charles Bay (clarinet) and Jim Walker (flute).
